In quiet surroundings you can sit on a bench, under a canopy of trees on the grounds of Cornerstone Church in Williamstown, NJ, take in the peace and calm of nature and pick up the Angelic Health Wind Phone and make your call to speak to those who have passed, as your voice travels in the wind and into the heavens.

A "wind phone" is a telephone connected to nowhere and everywhere at once. It is often housed in a booth or structure, used as a place for grieving individuals to symbolically "call" and express their thoughts and feelings with things which may have been left unsaid before their loved one passed. The concept originated in Japan with Itaru Sasaki, who in 2010 created a wind phone in his garden after his cousin's death from cancer. After the 2011 tsunami he moved it to a public space to help others in their grief. Wind phones provide a tangible way for people often need to express their feelings, share memories, and say things they never got to say to their departed loved ones. It's a place for reflection and can be a powerful tool for navigating the grieving process. The act of "calling" into the wind, rather than a traditional phone line, symbolizes a connection to the deceased through nature and the belief that their words will be carried to them.

"The Wind Phone can be beneficial in the grieving process," explained Ken Jackson, bereavement coordinator with Angelic Health Hospice Care. "It is a place of comfort, and it provides a sense of connection with those who have passed and aids in keeping their memory alive." The Wind Phone gives you freedom to express emotions, share memories, and process grief, and allows you to keep and feel a sense of connection and closure with your loved one. In communities, they can foster a shared space for mourning and remembrance. The concept has spread globally, with wind phones appearing in various locations like cemeteries, parks, and even on trails.
